Image transformations was released into beta last month. Since then we have made some improvements, that we would like to share with you.
New sizes, zoom and panning around
In the previous version of editor it was only possible to have square templates. Furthermore you could only see your template in a static box dependent on the size of your browser window. That has changed now.
The new menu allows you to zoom in and out, make it fit your screen or see the image in it's real size. You can also use your mouse or trackpad to zoom in and out of the template.
If you want to move the canvas around simply hold down space and use your mouse, like in other photo editing tools.
These new changes also allowed us to make different sizes available, so now you can make horizontal and vertical images. You find the new sizes in the settings menu. If the size you're looking for isn't there please reach out to us so we can add it.
Automatic backgrounds
The old Overlay editor allowed you to select "auto" as the background color. This feature is now also available for your templates.
To get started simply insert the product image, click on the Background layer and you'll see the option there.
Strategies
Under the checkbox to enable it, you'll find a dropdown for selecting the strategy (algorithm) for automatically determining which background color should be used. The available options are:
Edge - Average color in the edge of the image
Dominant edge - The most repeated color in the edge
Full - Average color for the whole image
Dominant full - The most repeated color in the whole image
Median cut - Algorithm for reducing color palettes
All of these also have an option to use the complement color of whatever is determined by the strategy. In most cases you should probably use edge or dominant edge, but play around with your product images and see what fits your use case.
Below you can see how the different strategies look.
